Trader Joe’s Haul

Posted in Fitness + Nutrition by

Trader Joe’s is everyone’s favorite grocery store. I mean, there are Instagram accounts devoted to Trader Joe’s items… and yes, I follow them. I love seeing what other people get at TJ’s so I thought I’d share my haul with you. I get overwhelmed by the store (and people – Hi. I’m an introvert), so I usually make a list of what we need/want and I made a shopping list for you!

Read to the end post for a free download of a healthy Trader Joe’s shopping list!

Charleston Travel Guide for a First Timer

    Posted in Lifestyle, Travel by

It’s been a dream of mine to visit Charleston, South Carolina for years. While it wasn’t too far away from me when I lived in Virginia (for 25 years), I just never visited for some reason. The hubs and I needed a getaway after he’d been gone so much in the last 6 months with training (military life, right?). We decided on Charleston and my not-so-secret obsession with Southern Charm may have been part of the reason. I decided to put a guide together with a list of things to do, not to do, places to eat, places to stay and other tidbits of info we wish we knew before we went.  There can never be too many Charleston travel guides, right?

    How Kombucha Ruined My Health

Kombucha ruined my health. That’s a pretty harsh statement, isn’t it? Is Kombucha really healthy? Something that is so highly revered in the health industry as this amazing, healthy probiotic that does wonders for your gut. But it didn’t have that effect on me.

A year ago we moved to Florida and I started getting more involved with research into holistic nutrition. After being involved with fitness and weightlifting for so many years, I had an understanding of “healthy” but I was focusing on aesthetics; looking good on the outside but I did not feel good in the inside. I had a lot of issues, supposed food allergies, eczema, extreme nausea, severe acid reflux, asthma and the list goes on. After being given prescription after prescription and getting sick with colds and yucky stuff every other month, something had to give. I knew I didn’t want to fill my body with antibiotics and pills to try and mask symptoms. I started researching gut health, and Kombucha was all the rage.  It was awesome; different flavors, bubbly, & a probiotic all in one! It was a magical unicorn that could cure whatever ailment you had.

Most people don’t get enough protein in their diets. The three staples (macronutrients) to keep your body functioning and alive are protein, carbs, and fats. This post is solely going to focus on protein powders because there are many misconceptions about how much protein you need, what ingredients should you avoid, should it be a meal replacement and my recommendations. So let’s dive in.

My Favorite Natural Cleaning & Household Products

    Posted in Lifestyle by

I’ll admit, I joined the craze of natural cleaning products with the rest of the world. It’s a bandwagon I’ll totally jump on. After researching the effects of toxic ingredients and irritants in most non-natural household products, I just couldn’t bring myself to buy them again. I’ve slowly phased them out of our household and have been buying natural alternatives for a little over a year now. I clean our house daily, and thinking about how a little exposure every day adds up over a lifetime, was pretty scary. These products give me a piece of mind, especially with little paws and curious wet noses around.

Below are my favorite natural and cruelty-free cleaning and household products I use regularly.

    Life as a Military Spouse

Posted in Lifestyle, Military Life by

Growing up, I didn’t dream of being a military spouse. I had the idea of a white picket fence in a perfect house that my husband and I would live in forever. I met my husband at Busch Gardens in Virginia while he was on leave after finishing school for his job in the Marine Corps. We had a whirlwind weekend and when he left I thought I’d never see him again but here we are five years later – married.

Welcome to Cultivating a Purposeful Life!

    Posted in Lifestyle by

    Hey y’all!

If you haven’t stopped by my about me page, pop on over for a brief introduction.

If we haven’t met yet, my name is Emilee and I am married to a wonderful man who is in the Marine Corps. We have a beautiful baby boy (we’re very serious about being fur-parents), Jack, who is the light of our lives and you’ll be seeing him a lot if you follow me on Instagram. I have a degree in Business Marketing which I received from VCU (Go Rams!) and currently in the process of completing my Personal Trainer Certification through NASM.

I have been talking about creating a blog for years and 2018 is my year of getting out of my comfort zone, so here we are! Blogging for me is a way to follow my passions and not just have them be hobbies.

Cultivating a Purposeful Life is all about having a life that’s good and finding purpose in everything that you do. You’ll find blog posts about what I’m most passionate about: family, fitness, nutrition, home decor, my love of all things coastal and a little bit of life.

I hope you come back and see what we’re up to from time to time!
